Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information Equity Bond collects, why we need it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, known as POPIA.

Who is responsible for your information

Equity Bond Home Loans is the responsible party for the personal information described in this notice. You can reach our information officer at info@equitybond.net.za or on 078 112 2333.

Our head office is in Century City, Cape Town, and we operate through originators in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha and George.

What we collect

Identifying information, such as your full name, identity or passport number, date of birth, marital status and contact details.

Financial information, such as your income, employment or business details, monthly expenses, existing credit commitments, bank statements, payslips, annual financial statements and tax status.

Property information, such as the address and purchase price of the property, the offer to purchase, and details of the estate agent and attorney involved.

Technical information collected automatically when you use this website, such as pages viewed and approximate location derived from your IP address. We do not use this to identify you personally.

Why we process it

To assess your affordability and prepare a home loan or commercial finance application on your instruction.

To submit that application to the banks and lenders you authorise us to approach, and to respond to their queries on your behalf.

To arrange related services you ask for, including bridging finance, insurance cover, and accounting or tax work.

To comply with our obligations under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005, the Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 and other applicable law.

To contact you about your application and, where you have agreed, about services that are relevant to it.

Who we share it with

The banks and lenders you authorise us to approach, which may include Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank, FNB, Investec and SA Home Loans.

Registered credit bureaux, for the purpose of the credit assessment you have consented to.

Conveyancing attorneys, valuers, insurers and bridging finance providers, where they form part of the transaction you have asked us to arrange.

Service providers who host our systems and process applications on our behalf, under written agreements requiring them to protect your information.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for unrelated marketing.

How long we keep it

We retain application records for the periods required by the National Credit Act and the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, which is generally five years from the end of the relationship or the conclusion of the transaction.

Enquiries that do not become applications are kept for up to twelve months and then deleted, unless you ask us to remove them sooner.

How we protect it

Access to application files is limited to the originator handling your file and the staff who support that process. Documents are transmitted to lenders through the secure channels each bank provides.

This website is served over encrypted connections and form submissions are transmitted over HTTPS.

No system is completely secure. If a breach affecting your information occurs, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and request a copy of it.

You may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, or to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep.

You may withdraw your consent to direct marketing at any time, without affecting your application.

To exercise any of these rights, email info@equitybond.net.za. We will respond within a reasonable period.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa at enquiries@inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies and analytics

This website uses only the cookies necessary for it to function correctly. We do not run advertising trackers or third party profiling scripts.

If we introduce analytics in future, this notice will be updated before that happens and the purpose will be stated here.
